“The Volkswagen Slovakia plant in Bratislava is the most complex production plant in the Volkswagen Group’s production network and the second largest Volkswagen plant by production volume in Europe. The production of eight models of four group brands and their technical complexity places enormous demands on parts supply and the associated logistics areas. Due to the arrival of a new model – the all-electric Porsche Cayenne SUV – it was necessary to expand our existing logistics center in the western part of the plant,” said Wolfram Kirchert, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Member of the Board of Directors for Technical Affairs at Volkswagen Slovakia.
Volkswagen Immobilien and its subsidiary Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia are responsible for the planning and construction of the logistics facilities at the Bratislava plant, which have invested a total of approximately EUR 110 million in the construction of real estate LOZ III, LOZ IV and the truck transport control center since their establishment.
“The completed expanded construction of the logistics center in Bratislava represents another successful milestone in our first and largest investment project to date that we were able to implement abroad with our subsidiary Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia as the developer and investor. With these spaces, we support the growth of Volkswagen Slovakia as a real estate partner in the group and at the same time send a clear signal in the area of sustainability. We thank our partners and Volkswagen Slovakia for their trust and very good cooperation over several years,” said Meno Requardt, Managing Director of Volkswagen Immobilien and Volkswagen Group Real Estate Slovakia.
In the future, the new LOZ IV logistics center will store and sequence parts for the new electric Porsche Cayenne on an area of approximately 25,600 m2. The material will be transported directly to the assembly line using forklifts or an automatic transport system. The direct connection with the existing LOZ III logistics center and the Porsche assembly hall allows for short logistics routes and flexible use of areas for logistics. In addition to the logistics areas, which will be equipped with shelving, two office blocks with sanitary facilities, new parking spaces and an outdoor relaxation area for employees have been created.
In new investment projects, Volkswagen Slovakia places great emphasis on sustainability and the use of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. The roof of the expanded LOZ IV building has been statically designed for the possible installation of photovoltaics. In addition, the existing LOZ III hall and the new LOZ IV hall are to be certified according to the standards of the German Society for Sustainable Buildings (DGNB) in order to emphasize the high quality of the buildings.
