“We already have all valid permits for constructing three various warehouses at the location with total lettable area of 52,000 m2. The park is situated in a retail zone, and Zvolen itself lies at the centre of a major transport hub, making it a very attractive location not only for logistics and e-commerce but for other tenants, as well,” comments Erik Križan, VGP Commercial Country Manager for Slovakia, adding: “We are excited about our co-operation to date with Packeta. All negotiations are progressing with mutual agreement, and so we believe that the current project is just the beginning of a long-term partnership.”
Packeta is originally a Czech logistics company founded in 2010. It specialises in comprehensive logistics services for online shops and, since 2019, also in the transport of packages and letters between individuals. The company expanded into the Slovak market less than ten years ago and already provides solutions for shipments worldwide with more than 10,000 dispatch points and 2,160 self-service pickup points (so-called Z-Boxes). The company’s success is also evidenced by a number of recognitions: for example, a Zlatý středník (Golden Semicolon) award for the Zásilkovna mobile application, the Křišťálová Lupa (Crystal Magnifying Glass) award in the Internet Commerce category, and the Slovak Employer of the Year 2020 in the Transport and Logistics category according to a survey by the company Profesia.
"With our rapid annual growth, the requirements for office and warehouse space are increasing. In order to be the best on the market, the new hall must meet several important parameters. We appreciate all the more that VGP is able to meet all our sometimes high demands. We are convinced that the warehouse in Zvolen will be the beginning of a new and intensive cooperation with VGP," states Alexander Jančo, Executive Director of Packeta, Slovakia.
VGP Park Zvolen is designed in accordance with VGP’s long-term corporate policy to build sustainable and energy-efficient buildings. Therefore, its construction will be carried out with the aim of obtaining the internationally recognised BREEAM certificate at the level Excellent. There will be an extensive green roof and a green façade implemented in the currently built new hall. Vegetation on the roof will include grass, herbs, moss and will have a significant impact on the biodiversity and CO2 footprint of the area. In addition, it will cool the interior and also the surroundings of the building, reduce noise and dust particles in the air, and therefore provide pleasant work conditions and reduced energy costs. Rainwater harvesting will also be implemented, with rainwater being used for watering of the green façade and for multiple gardens in the park. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the currently built hall to reduce energy costs, and will among others be used for the heating of hot water for office areas.
The city of Zvolen is considered a strategic transit point in Slovakia, and its potential is further enhanced by the nearby Sliač airport. Zvolen has a total population of 43,000, while the wider Zvolen – Banská Bystrica region is home to more than 150,000 people. The VGP premises will be built close to the Continental tire plant as well as existing retail and logistics zones. That means the site already has good public transport accessibility for all potential employees from the surrounding area.
